Borrowing the title from John Teo of the New Straits Times today that read, ‘Exactly what is it that our Chinese voters want?’, I have been asking myself the same question for quite some time already.
I don’t really get a straight cut answer from the article but I think it is meant to give us the idea that Chinese are more obsessed in wanting a corrupt-free government compared to others.
Alright, so the Chinese sees the government today as corrupt beyond repair and therefore needs to be changed.
I understand that, I would love to do the same, believe me.
Taking Selangor as an example, as suggested by the writer because it is a state that has a population make-up that looks more like the rest of the country, I would like to post a couple of questions:
If corruption-free government is so important, then;

By: Tarmizi Md. Jam Every sane, rational person should have been able to read Anwar’s strategy of delaying his case for as long as possible: A strategy of a guilty man, trying to prevent the truth from being revealed. Anwar’s case was once again, postponed yesterday. Not that Saiful was afraid of the physical evidence nor was Saiful afraid of being cross-examined by Karpal.

If little girls are made of sugar and spice and everything nice, DAP is made of racism and gangterism and everything corrupt.
DAP, a biological son of PAP, is a party formed out of racism and hatred. The party now can no longer hold back the demon inside them. The demon has been waiting for far too long to emerge and do some real damage. The winning of Pakatan Rakyat in a few states seemed to be a signal for it to come out.
And so, after the winning, dark cloud started to form around Selangor and Penang. Perak, the state in between, gets cloudy at times too.
In Selangor, the demon came in the form of a mobster. This mob then transformed itself into a state Exco who is said to own, or rather protects hundreds of ‘massage’ parlours all over Selangor. Bookies, loan sharks and sand robbers are also said to be protected by him.
Because of him, Selangor today, is in deep crisis. Barely two years old, the Pakatan Rakyat is already losing control of the state. Only in Selangor, the underworld is no longer an ‘under’-world. Illegal dealings are being done out in the open, without a care to the world.
Today, the news headlines read, Tee Boon Hock, a Klang Municipal Councillor is accused to have misused the letterheads and an official seal of Ronnie Liu, A Selangor State Exco to secure contracts for his families and cronies. The contracts are worth more than RM1 million.

Anwar, in his blog today published a speech he made at the 15th Malaysian Law Conference 2010 held in the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre on 31st July 2010. The speech was ironically entitled, “Taking Justice Seriously”.
In the speech, Anwar actually admitted that he doesn’t take lawyers seriously, as he sort of began his speech by stating that he would “depart from his usual practice of poking fun at lawyers”.
Of all the people in the world, and for having 9-10 lawyers at a time, Anwar must have known very well how ‘funny’ some lawyers could be.
To make sure his own lawyers didn’t get upset with his speech, he squeezed in a statement “Of course, in any basket there are always some bad apples but as they say that shouldn’t spoil the whole bunch”. Having said that, he hoped that his lawyers understand that he didn’t necessarily referred to them as bad apples.
Anwar must have been confident that his lawyers were stupid enough to believe that he really didn’t poke fun at them too.

Despite the figures of declining FDI inflow, Malaysia’s stock market is said to be a “safe refuge” for foreign investors seeking shelter from volatility in other Asian markets because of its domestic economy and defensive qualities, according to JPMorgan Chase & Co., one of the largest financial institutions in the United States as quoted by Bloomberg on July 28th, 2010.
It has also been identified that the prime causes of growing deficit in Malaysia’s net FDI inflows are due to a narrow human capital base, lack of knowledge synergies from R&D labs and slow build up in technological capabilities.
Therefore, the government has given very prominent position in the investment framework offered under the New Economic Model and the 10th Malaysia Plan. These include forming new talent corporations which will be tasked to source top talent both overseas and locally, increased investment for top students to receive scholarships to pursue studies in leading universities and focusing more on high-caliber young talent by the civil service.
Apart from that, the government will also implement measures to establish teaching as higher value profession of choice and improve the quality of students and local talent. The proportion of graduate teachers in primary schools will be increased from 28% to 60%.

Often, in his shoes Karpal Singh cannot find the support in the court of public opinion due to his severely lop sided stance against government policies, primarily due to the fact that he is after all, the DAP national chairman.
A politician, no matter where who has racist tendencies and against Malays and Muslims should not be accepted by any community.
However, this is mostly lost in the minds of Pakatan Rakyat supporters who seemed usually overtly crazy to understand about the actual reasons for the DAP's Middle Malaysia cry.

Controversial Klang municipal councillor Tee Boon Hock has lashed out at DAP's disciplinary committee over his sacking from the party, claiming that there was a “hidden hand” behind the decision.
“Yes, the DAP disciplinary committee has jumped the gun in making such a premature decision,” he said on Sunday.
“Such action meted out against me is harsh in nature and unfair. I believe there is a hidden hand in the sacking especially with the upcoming party elections. It might be some people want me out of their path.”
“People must understand that the allegations involves the local council and the investigations are under the purview of the state audit department, it is a state administration matter and not under the DAP party.”

It is timely for Malaysia to integrate the Model United Nations (Model UN), an academic simulation of the UN, into its national school system as it could promote critical thinking among the younger generation, a UN official said.
UN Resident Coordinator for Malaysia, Brunei and Singapore, Kamal Malhotra said the programme, which aims to educate participants about civics, current events, effective communication, globalisation and multilateral diplomacy, could benefit the Malaysian school curriculum.
"We in the UN sees that the human right approach is central to everything we do; so if it is to be adopted in the Malaysian school system, it has to be done as part of curriculum reform," he told Bernama in a recent interview.
For Malaysia, however, there would be challenge because it also had a vernacular school system, he said.
"This works best in a multicultural context where everyone is in one school," he said, adding that for a start, Malaysia could target the national school system which has student from all ethnic groups.

The political scenario and changes in the country's political landscape since the March 2008 general election demand the Barisan Nasional (BN) leadership at all levels to undertake significant changes and a transformation process that can be accepted by the people.
Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said if the BN leadership failed to undertake such changes, then the party would face problems in the next general election.
"If we don't do these immediately...then we will certainly face major problems as the next general election approaches, that can challenge the strength of (our) political power," he said at the dinner organised by Malaysian Council of ex-Elected Representatives (Mubarak), here Saturday night.

The oppositions statement was made our of context when they mentioned that the declining in FDI flows reflected the investor’s lack of confidence in doing business in Malaysia.
It is important to note that, global FDI flows in 2009 fell by almost 40%, affecting all countries, not just Malaysia. This is reported the UNCTAD World Investment Report (WIR) 2010.
The cause was obviously the global economic downturn whereby the difficulties in accessing credit lines had led the multinational companies to delay or put on hold the already approved project.
In a climate of global uncertainties, governments’ stimulus efforts have been mainly oriented to support domestic markets rather than investment overseas. Investment allocation by multinational corporations was refocused on developed markets.
